The headlining story in this month's Construction in Vancouver publication featured the Teck Acute Care Centre at BC Children's Hospital, following its recent win of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association's (VRCA) Awards of Excellence Gold Award for general contractors over $50 million.
"We are honoured to receive the prestigious VRCA Gold Award," said Pat Duggan, general manager, Affinity Partnerships, in the article. "Our team did a phenomenal job of building a world-class healing environment that will forever improve the lives of children and women in British Columbia."
Replacing aging infrastructure, the Centre provides private single-patient rooms to allow for family members and care givers to stay close to the patients. The unique design of the Centre took inspiration from the different regions in B.C. to make all their patients feel comfortable and at home.
Each year, the VRCA recognizes the finest companies, projects and individuals in the construction industry with the Awards of Excellence. Three Silver Award winners are selected in 15 project categories for their use of innovative techniques, new materials and/or exceptional project management. On the night, one Silver Award winner from each category will be chosen as the Gold Award winner. Awards are granted based a variety of criteria including financial performance, project schedule and sustainable construction.
VCRA is the largest regional construction association in British Columbia, and the fifth largest in Canada. It represents union and non-union, general and trade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and professionals that service the industrial, commercial and institutional construction industry throughout the Lower Mainland. As the industry’s business hub, VRCA provides the resources that the industry needs to be informed, productive, competitive and profitable over the long term.
